With the New Year almost upon us, it’s time to reflect on the year just passed and to consider the new goal posts for 2008. How did you go achieving your dreams and goals in 2007? Did you move forward, make positive changes to get better results, adapt to your situation?
Goals provide us with direction – a reason to get up everyday, a reason to do some of the stuff we may not like, in order to achieve the goal. It is important to reassess our current results and determine if we are on track to achieve our goals – long term and short term.
Consider goal setting like an jet with an autopilot. You set your destination (X) and flight path. Rather than a straight line, the plane ends up doing a zig-zag across the skies as the autopilot constantly realigns the direction to end up at X. Similarly, you need to keep an eye on your results and determine what action you need to take to make your destination.
This is important to do, even when it seems everything is going along nicely and you are hitting all your goals. Unless you have new goals to keep you going, you may lose the momentum that you have worked so hard to gain.
Consider a heavy round rock or boulder. To get it moving initially takes hard work, and for a long time it may feel like you’re not getting anywhere. And then, the rock starts to move a little, and you smile, knowingly. As the rock starts to move, it becomes a bit lighter to push, and as you push it moves more, and thus the rock builds up momentum. Once the rock has momentum, you still need to give it a push now and then to keep it going, for if you stop, so will the rock, and then you have to do all that hard work again. Keep the momentum going!!
So, now that you have reflected on 2007, what do you want to do, be or have in 2008? Why not think big this year. If you’ve easily achieved your goals in the past, stretch yourself in 2008 and most importantly, write your goal down. It helps you to really think about what it is you want, and it declares that this is what you are going to work towards. Yes, it does take action on your part, and this is much easier to do when you have the big picture in your mind. As Greg Norman says, “Begin with the end in mind”.
I wish you all an amazing Christmas and a fabulous start to the New Year.

Goals for the New Year - What do you want?

BE a sporting role-model
When you think about the results you want in life, do you think about the type of person you need to BE to get those results?
Who are your role models that are creating the results you want?
Unfortunately some role-models in sport with high-profiles and great results on the sport field do not have the same success OFF the sports field. Would you prefer to have the overall success of Ricky Ponting or Shane Warne; Ben Cousins or James Hird; Lote Tuquiri or John Eales.
A complete champion strives to be a champion in life because the rewards are far greater, both financially, socially AND personally. You can choose to today how you are going to show up in life and what kind of results you want to get.

Ben Cousins - how to make effective change
I'm truly passionate about helping all people make effective changes in their lives. Changes that will empower them to better results. I can see that the work I do with the mind, can make a difference to problems like Ben Cousins and other footballers have - the struggle to be a role model and do the right thing.
You probably know how hard it is to make changes, consciously. You try and try to do the right thing (stop drinking, eat less, exercise more) but somehow the old habits are tempting and kick back in. That's because these habits are ingrained at the unconscious level. We have been programmed from a very early age how to think and act - some of these serve us, some of these don't.
The good news is that you can change the programming - you can rewire your mind and body to let go of limiting beliefs and habits. It can happen quickly too if you can commit to the change. Once you see the benefits of changing, the value it can add to your life, and the cost of not changing, you WILL want to change. It's easy when you commit.
Harmony and You
What are your options in relation to others? Are you in harmony with those around you? Are you in harmony with yourself? I know when I haven’t been in harmony. It has often been when I was doing things to please others and was against what I would have preferred to do or say. It was often in order to be accepted by others, or more fear of being rejected. Doing this constantly can be energetically draining, build resentments and prevent you from really getting the results you deserve in life.
What are you projecting to those around you? Becoming true to yourself, and acting more authentically can be very rewarding, particularly when you really get in touch with who you are. Rather than rejection, one can be accepted more than ever.
Acting in harmony with yourself may require you to set boundaries about how you choose to act in the future, particularly in challenging situations. A boundary may be as simple as giving yourself permission to say “no” to requests or offers. A boundary may be allowing yourself to have special time for you – either daily or weekly, as you require. A boundary may be committing to communicating more directly and honestly when required. I encourage you to think what boundaries you need to be in harmony with those around you.

Welcome
Welcome to my blog where I intend to keep you posted on my opinions on matters of the mind and how that impacts on your results. I have a particular interest in performance in sport - both on the field and off the field. Releasing blocks in your unconscious mind can be the key to getting all the results you dream of. I look forward to sharing more.
